Challenge 2. “Improve the user and service experience for touchscreen coffee machines by moving toward a more modular, intuitive, and scalable architecture”

Azkoyen is upgrading its touchscreen coffee machines under the Azkore platform, with the aim of offering a more intuitive and faster user experience that meets end-user expectations. These solutions combine direct interaction with the customer at the point of service with technical processes for configuration, parameterization, diagnostics, and maintenance—all of which are essential for proper operation.

Currently, although the technological foundation is solid, there are opportunities for improvement in both the user experience and service delivery. On the one hand, on-screen interactions can be cumbersome, affecting ease of use and clarity. On the other hand, the technical processes associated with maintenance and configuration are not always sufficiently guided, efficient, or consistent, which impacts response times and daily operations.

At the same time, the current model is somewhat complex in terms of software architecture, with dependencies between components that hinder the system’s agile evolution. This limits the ability to implement improvements quickly, as well as the solution’s scalability and maintainability over time.

In this context, the challenge lies in designing a comprehensive proposal that combines:

  • A significant improvement in the user experience (UX/UI) when interacting with the machine.

  • A more guided, efficient, and technician-focused service experience.

  • A shift toward a more modular architecture, reducing dependencies and facilitating future updates.

The goal is to move toward a more robust and flexible solution that is ready to incorporate new features, while maintaining operational consistency and the quality of the user experience.

Expected benefits

Implementing a solution in this area will enable AZKOYEN to make an impact across several key aspects of the business:

  • Improved user experience: more intuitive, faster, and more satisfying interaction , reducing friction during use and enhancing the perception of product quality.

  • Technical service optimization: reduced response times, lower error rates, and greater efficiency in configuration, diagnostics, and maintenance tasks.

  • Greater operational efficiency: streamlining processes and reducing the complexity of system management, both technically and functionally.

  • Faster technological evolution: the ability to introduce improvements and new features more quickly thanks to a more modular and decoupled architecture.

  • Scalability and maintainability: a technology platform designed to grow and adapt to new requirements without significantly increasing development costs.

  • Enhancing competitiveness: improving product positioning through a unique experience and greater adaptability.

What are you looking for in a partner?

Azkoyen is looking for partners capable of providing practical technological solutions, combining a user-centered approach with technical expertise and an understanding of the industrial environment.

The following will be given special consideration:

  • Experience in UX/UI in industrial settings (HMI): designing intuitive interfaces tailored to real-world usage and operational contexts

  • Prototyping and validation capabilities: development of workflows, interfaces, and testable solutions in real or simulated environments, using an iterative approach

  • Expertise in software architecture: experience in modularization, component decoupling, and defining scalable structures

  • Practical, implementation-oriented approach: ability to translate proposals into actionable solutions with clear deliverables (prototypes, guidelines, technical recommendations)

  • Collaboration with internal teams: ability to work closely with development, product, and operations teams to tailor the solution to the real-world context

  • Medium-term vision: proposing solutions that not only address the current challenge but also lay the groundwork for future developments

It is not just a matter of redesigning an interface, but of comprehensively rethinking the user and service experience, building on a technological foundation that allows Azkoyen to evolve its solutions in a more agile, efficient, and sustainable manner over time.
