Reto 25. “Tecnologías para mejorar la productividad y eficiencia del cultivo"

Crop productivity is a strategic priority for Grupo Virto, as it directly impacts the availability of raw materials, product quality, and the company’s ability to guarantee supply to its customers. Although the fields are not directly owned by the company, Grupo Virto works with farmers and partner farms, making the improvement of agricultural yields a shared priority and key to the stability of its value chain.

The challenge is approached from an open-minded perspective, aimed at exploring solutions that help improve crop productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. To this end, Grupo Virto seeks to analyze both field monitoring and decision-making technologies as well as innovative solutions related to fertilizers and biostimulants that can increase crop yields and efficiency.

On the one hand, the company is interested in solutions that provide a better understanding of what is happening in the field by monitoring critical factors such as soil condition, moisture levels, crop development, weather conditions, plant stress, the presence of pests or diseases, or any other indicator that can help anticipate risks and make better agronomic decisions.

Furthermore, the challenge also opens the door to innovative solutions in the fields of plant nutrition, fertilizers, biofertilizers, and other products that can improve crop efficiency, optimize resource use, and increase productivity without compromising quality or sustainability.

In particular, we will prioritize solutions that are capable of:

  • Monitor critical crop and field variables in a simple, reliable, and actionable way.

  • Help anticipate problems related to water stress, fertilization, pests, diseases, or crop development.

  • To provide useful information to help farmers and technicians make decisions.

  • Improving agricultural productivity and production efficiency.

  • Optimize the use of water, fertilizers, treatments, and other inputs.

  • Propose biostimulants or innovative solutions that improve crop efficiency.

  • Provide monitoring, recommendation, or early warning models that can be applied on participating farms.

The challenge is not seeking a single, closed-off technology, but rather solutions that allow for the exploration of different avenues to improve crop productivity, whether through data, sensors, precision agriculture, artificial intelligence, new agricultural inputs, or combinations of various approaches.

Expected benefits

A solution in this area will enable Grupo Virto to make an impact at various levels:

  • Improving agricultural productivity: increasing crop yields and making better use of available land.

  • Greater supply security: reduced risks associated with field variability, agronomic issues, or yield shortfalls.

  • Better decision-making: access to objective, up-to-date information for farmers, technical staff, and planning teams.

  • Resource optimization: more efficient use of water, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural inputs.

  • Risk anticipation: the ability to detect potential problems that could affect the crop at an early stage and take action before they impact production.

  • Contributing to more sustainable agriculture: improving productivity through more efficient use of resources and reduced environmental impact.
