Subiza Chocolates: A century-old tradition built on cocoa and passion

María José Subiza has participated in the Iruña Ekintzaile | Pamplona Emprende program, which aims to promote, strengthen, and revitalize commerce in the capital of Navarre.

Chocolates Subiza is not just a chocolate company. It is a living part of Navarre’s history. Founded in 1841 by Manuel Subiza, who learned the trade in France and brought it back to his hometown of Erro, this chocolate shop has been passed down from generation to generation, eventually reaching María José Subiza, who today continues to craft her products by hand, using the same antique machinery her grandfather used.

The chocolate shop, located on Calle Maya in Pamplona, remains true to its roots: chocolates with a high cocoa content, free of preservatives and artificial colors, combined with natural ingredients such as orange, honey, coffee, and nuts. “The artisanal process we use is what preserves the wonderful properties of cocoa,” María José tells us.

With the support of the program Iruña Ekintzaile | Pamplona Emprende, María José has taken new steps to keep this tradition alive in the 21st century, strengthening her project and preparing it to continue growing without losing its essence. Because entrepreneurship also means caring for what we’ve inherited, updating it, and sharing it with new generations.

The Pamplona City Council and CEIN are promoting Iruña Ekintzaile | Pamplona Emprende, an initiative designed to support the creation, improvement, and transfer of businesses in the capital of Navarre.
